A Cozy Home for the Winter

New MPAC Assessments on the Way

Home owners may see a double digit increase in the assessed value of their property according to MPAC's chief assessor Larry Hummel. Since 2008 the average value of property in Ontario has increased 18% which means property owners can expect to see, on average, a 4.5% increase in the assessed value of their property each year for four years.

The good news is that an increase in assessed value doesn't necessarily mean an increase in property taxes. This may be the case if the assessed value of the property has increased at the same rate as the average as the municipality.

Movember ... Changing the Face of Men's Health

During November each year, Movember is responsible for the sprouting of moustaches on thousands of men's faces, in Canada and around the world.  With their "Mo's", these men raise vital funds and awareness for men's health, specifically prostate cancer and male mental health initiatives.

Erica's Testimonial

My name is Erica Campbell and I would like to express my gratitude to David Weir for the Real Estate skills he displayed with me when I bought my first home. It can be very scary to buy your first home, especially when you don’t know enough about the industry. David Weir was referred by a co-worker and once we had our first meeting, David took me under his wing and made the purchase a lot more comfortable. He didn’t just show me homes.  He explained the pros and cons of each home and it was obvious that he wasn’t putting the sale before my needs.  He was genuinely interested in assisting me in this big decision and was supportive from the beginning through to the end.  I asked a lot of questions and he gave me the answers I needed, but didn’t steer me in the wrong direction. I knew after I purchased my home that he would be the one I would want by my side when it was time to sell!!
When I received an unexpected transfer within my job, David was the first person I contacted and I knew that it would be a challenge to sell during the winter. David gave me all the right directions to get my home on the market and assisted with getting my home ready to sell. It was a good feeling to have David by my side during this stressful time and he made it easy to stay positive. Even though my home didn’t sell instantly and I had to move across the country to my new place of work, I knew I was in good hands. David still gave it his all to show my home during the winter and shortly after I transferred, it sold!!!! I am so grateful to have had such knowledgeable and experienced realtor working for me in my absence. There are other realtors out there but my second purchase for a home wasn’t the same because David has a way of doing things that doesn’t only take drive to get the job done, but to do it in a personal way for each of his clients. If you're ever looking for a professional real estate agent that will be honest and work hard for you, it's David Weir.
Thank you David for all you’ve done.

Federal Budget Impact on DND

In reading the following article, it doesn't appear that the recently-released federal budget will negatively impact CFB Trenton.  Rumour has it that the Canadian Forces will get rid of its air defence equipment, shut down military housing in Toronto, Vancouver and Winnipeg and cut back on army training.  See David Pugliese's National Post article here.

PRESS RELEASE from The Quinte & District Association of REALTORS® Inc.

Comparing the month of February 2012 to February 2011, unit sales for residential properties on the Quinte District Association of REALTORS® Inc. MLS® System sales increased 41.9% from 117 units in 2011 to 166 units in 2012.

Total active residential listings for February were down 2.6% over 2011.

February statistics show a solid housing market continues in the Quinte area. A slight reduction in residential listing inventory and a large increase in both unit sales and dollar volume should help fuel a healthy Spring market locally. The bulk of residential sales occurred between the 150 to 250 thousand range, with second place being in the 100 to 150 thousand mark. With all the wonderful amenities that this area offers, it’s amazing how affordable the housing market has remained.

If you would like more information about real estate values in this area please don’t hesitate to call us today!
